iirc they took LJ's open source code or something like that But they kept a bunch of stuff that LJ removed that was extremely useful to anon memes and stuff like that (like the possibility to write a title to your comment, which is awesome for fic memes)
(ngl it's kinda hard to get back to a more normal blogging way because tumblr got me used to stupid short posts)
